What is the best way to go about choosing a Locksmith? 1. Recommendation There can be no better way of getting a good Locksmith or any other tradesman than a good recommendation from friend, neighbour or family. 2. Reviews With most people finding locksmiths via the internet these days making sure that the Locksmith has good reviews is a must, also looking to see if the Locksmith has reviews other than Google ( i.e. Yell.com). 3. Locality Ideally it is best to get a Locksmith from your local area, for obvious reasons someone travelling from a distance is going to take longer to reach you and will probably charge you more. 4.Accredited There is no legal requirement to belong to any organization for Locksmiths, but if they belong to a recognized organization then that will give you more confidence ( i.e. Trading Standards ). 5.Size of company Most local Locksmiths are one person operations, the person you speak to will probably be the one who caries out the work, the benefits are that you will be speaking to a skilled person straight away who is more likely to understand your issue and you are paying one persons wage helping to reduce costs.

One of the most common calls we get is " I`m having problems locking my door". On a upvc type door this can be caused by a door that is out of alignment, a problem with the locking mechanism, a problem with the cylinder ( the part the key goes in) as well as other problems. What to do? Don`t leave it for 6 months then make the call because it is likely to cost more money, it will me more likely that the mechanism will need replacing, this will be the most expensive part to replace, the sooner you call the better, it could save money overall.

I`m often asked what is the best lock to get for my door? If by best we mean the highest level of security then it`s a fairly easy question to answer, if you have a upvc or composite type door then the highest level of security for your cylinder lock ( the bit where you put the key ) is a British standard 3 star diamond rated cylinder, a bit of a mouthful I know, these locks have gone through very rigorous tests to achieve this accreditation. They offer the best defence against the methods used by burglars trying to enter your home. If you have a wooden type door then the highest level of security for insurance purposes is a 5 lever British standard mortice lock BS3621:2007. The faceplate on the mortice lock should have markings and if you have the latest one available it will have the British standard kitemark with BS3621:2007. At this moment in time these are the highest rated locks available. Additional security can always be added to doors to bolster your security. Any questions please call Andy on 07980093254

I have been collecting old lock cylinder for about 18 months now, when replacing the locks I always ask the customer if they are ok with me taking the old locks. This week I decided to get them weighed in and the total amount has raised £ 129.60. I am looking to give the money to a local Shropshire charity so if anyone has any recommendations please let me know. Many thanks, Andy.

We supply and fit all types of locks for Domestic and Commercial properties, unfortunately we can not supply locks or keys for vehicles. Our key cutting service only covers supplying extra keys for the locks that we replace. If you are looking for a key for your lock we would recommend using a local independent key cutting shop in your area.

Sorry for the delay in adding my next post , we have been very busy the past few months. Today I want to talk about British standard mortice locks. I f you have a wooden exterior door on your property I would highly recommend having a 5 lever British standard mortice lock, when fitted to that door you will always be covered for insurance purposes. I f you are not sure if you have one or not take a look a the plate as in the above picture, if it has a British standard kite mark with the writing below bs3621:2007 if you have one of these then you will have the up to date version, anything other than this and your insurance for that door may not be up to date. If you are unsure give Andy a call on 01952 271820 and I will take a look for you.
